ConnectMyGear works without an account. We collect as little as we can.

What you type

Your description of what you’re connecting is first read by code running in your own browser. If that code can’t understand it and our AI features are switched on, the text is sent to our server function and to Anthropic, our AI provider, to identify the devices you mentioned. We don’t save it.

Photos

If you take or upload a photo, your browser shrinks it and sends it to our server function, which passes it to Anthropic to identify the ports. The photo is handled in memory to produce the answer. We do not store it. Anthropic processes it under its commercial terms, which you can read at anthropic.com. Please don’t photograph documents, people or anything private.

The photos shown on this site are free-to-use images.

Answers and share links

Your result is worked out in your browser. A share link contains only the device types and port choices (for example “vcr, tv”), never your text or photos.

Feedback and contact forms

If you tell us whether an answer helped, we receive your yes or no, the reason you chose, and the device types and parts in that answer. If you use the contact form, we receive what you type, including your email if you give it. These are stored by Netlify, our host, and used only to improve the site and reply to you.

Analytics and cookies

We may use Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to count visits and see which answers help. They stay off until you choose Allow. We never send your text, photos or model numbers to analytics. We don’t use advertising cookies. Your consent choice is saved in your browser’s local storage.

Server logs

Like any website, our host (Netlify) records technical logs such as IP address and browser type to run and protect the service.

Affiliate links

If we add shopping links in future, the retailer may set its own cookies when you click through. We’ll update this page before that happens.

Your choices

You can decline analytics, skip photos entirely, and use the site without giving any personal information. To ask about or delete anything you sent through the contact form, use the contact form.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13 and we don’t knowingly collect their information.
