Common confusion
An "RCA to HDMI" converter and an "HDMI to RCA" converter look alike but only work in one direction each.
Going from Composite AV (RCA) to something else
- HDMI: AV to HDMI converter (needs power). It makes the connection work. It does not make old video HD.
- RF coax (antenna): RF modulator (needs power). Lowest picture quality of any option. The TV needs an analog tuner.
- SCART: RCA to SCART adapter (input) (no power needed).
Getting something else into Composite AV (RCA)
- HDMI: HDMI to AV converter (needs power). Picture is scaled down to standard definition. Cheap units add a little lag.
- S-Video: S-Video to composite adapter (no power needed). Slightly softer picture than S-Video, but works on TVs with only yellow input.
